Reports indicate that UEFA will provide Manchester City with a substantial eight-figure financial boost before Pep Guardiola’s team even begins playing in the next season’s Champions League.
The latest updates on the upcoming tournament come shortly after UEFA finalized the new format, which will see the elimination of the traditional group stage and drawing procedures.
In the revamped format, teams will engage in a league phase consisting of eight matches against different opponents, with half of the games played at home and the other half away.
Manchester City is set to receive a guaranteed £53 million in prize money for the next season’s UEFA Champions League, as reported by The Sun’s Martin Lipton.
If they manage to win every game in the tournament, the reigning Premier League champions could earn a total of £133.5 million, a significant increase from the £117 million they earned in the previous season.
In addition to these earnings, Manchester City could secure an extra £3.67 million if they successfully defend their Champions League title and triumph in the UEFA Super Cup at Wembley Stadium.
The team is currently in contention for another European crown this season, having advanced past FC Copenhagen in the last-16 stage and facing Real Madrid in the quarter-finals.
Manchester City will clash with Real Madrid in a two-leg tie, with the first leg at the Santiago Bernabeu and the second leg at the Etihad Stadium.
