Manchester City, the Premier League champions, are set to strengthen their defense by leveraging their close relationships within the City Football Group.
This move is just the latest in a series of collaborations between Manchester City and their sister clubs within the City Group. The recent agreement with ESTAC Troyes is a clear example of this partnership.
Manchester City’s transfer officials have been quick to secure the future of Brazilian international Savio, who has impressed during his loan spell at Girona this season.
The 19-year-old Savio will join Manchester City this summer, with Pep Guardiola possibly giving the teenager a chance to showcase his skills during the pre-season tour of the United States before making a final decision on his role within the first-team squad.
Manchester City’s transfer activities are now focused on the USA, as they have edged ahead of top German clubs to secure the signing of promising left-back Christian McFarlane from New York City FC.
The 17-year-old McFarlane is set to join the Premier League champions, beating competition from Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund.
It’s unclear whether Manchester City will keep McFarlane in their Academy system or loan him to another City Group club upon his arrival. Girona, in La Liga, has been a destination for Manchester City’s top talents, with the possibility of competing in the UEFA Champions League next season.
Claudio Echeverri, currently on loan at River Plate, is expected to enter the European scene by January 2025. There are talks of him going on loan to Girona before Manchester City assess his progress the following summer.
