A Manchester City season ticket holder is reportedly playing a significant role in Manchester United’s plans to redevelop Old Trafford. Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS are leading the rebuild of Manchester United, starting with footballing decisions and infrastructure improvements at Old Trafford. Despite its historic significance, the quality of the stadium has been a topic of discussion in recent years.
To address this, a task force has been established by Manchester United’s minority stakeholders to consider the feasibility of a new arena for the team and the wider football community in the north-west of England. The panel includes figures like Gary Neville, Lord Coe, and the Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham. Alongside them, a Manchester City season ticket holder will also contribute to the redevelopment plans for Old Trafford.
One key member of the task force is Sara Todd, the chief executive of Trafford Council and a regular attendee at Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium. Todd, a Mancunian and planner by trade, is also involved with the City in the Community Foundation. Gary Neville has praised Manchester City’s infrastructure and the ongoing redevelopment of the east Manchester region, highlighting the new training facility and multi-use entertainment venue.
Neville expressed admiration for the developments in east Manchester and compared it to the potential for growth at Old Trafford. Meanwhile, Manchester City is expanding the Etihad Stadium to accommodate over 60,000 fans and include amenities like a hotel and entertainment facilities. The collaboration between Manchester United and individuals from rival clubs like Manchester City signifies a shared goal of improving the footballing experience in the region.
