Manchester City has reportedly emerged victorious in securing the signature of promising Championship youngster Timeo Whisker, beating out competition from other Premier League clubs. This acquisition adds to the growing list of talented youth prospects recruited by Pep Guardiola and Manchester City, as they aim for sustained success across all age groups.
Recently, Manchester City finalized an agreement with fellow City Football Group team ESTAC Troyes for the signing of Brazilian winger Savio, who has been performing well during his loan spell at Girona in La Liga. The City Football Group structure allows Manchester City to develop players at the City Football Academy or send them to sister clubs for further development and coaching.
City’s search for emerging talents led them to the Championship, where scouts identified Whisker as a player deserving of a top-level contract ahead of competing clubs. The Athletic’s David Ornstein reports that Manchester City is poised to outbid several Premier League rivals for the 15-year-old Cardiff City prospect.
Manchester City’s offer of around £250,000 has been accepted by Cardiff, and Whisker will undergo a medical examination before finalizing a schoolboy registration with the club. The City Football Academy’s success in producing talent has not only strengthened the team but has also been a significant source of revenue through player sales.
In the 2023 summer transfer window, several academy graduates secured lucrative moves away from the club, including Cole Palmer’s £40 million transfer to Chelsea. Additionally, players like James McAtee, Issa Kabore, and Taylor Harwood-Bellis went out on loan to clubs in the Premier League, showcasing the club’s commitment to developing young talent.
