Manchester City is facing a setback as they prepare to take on Newcastle United in the quarter-final of the Emirate FA Cup on Saturday. Some key players may be unavailable for selection in the upcoming match.
Last season, Manchester City achieved the historic treble by winning the FA Cup, the Premier League title, and the UEFA Champions League trophy. They will be looking to continue their success in the FA Cup this year, but they will need to overcome Newcastle United, who eliminated them in the Carabao League Cup earlier this season.
Unfortunately, Manchester City will be without at least three first-team players for the match. Jack Grealish remains sidelined and will not be ready to play. Additionally, Ederson, the first-choice goalkeeper, will be unavailable. Pep Guardiola has a policy of playing his second-choice goalkeeper in cup competitions, except for the UEFA Champions League matches, so Ederson may only be fit enough to start from the bench.
Another blow for Manchester City is the absence of Kevin De Bruyne. The Belgium head coach, Domenico Tedesco, revealed that De Bruyne has been dealing with an underlying groin issue, which has led to his exclusion from the Belgium squad during the international break. Tedesco stated, “He’s been playing with a minor groin issue during the last games. Yesterday I spoke to the doctor and Kevin and we decided that the risk is too big. It’s better to give him time to recover well at City and then have him ready for the Euros.”
In light of these injuries, Guardiola will have to manage his team without De Bruyne for the upcoming match against Newcastle United. This decision will allow the midfielder to properly recover and be ready for the next important match against Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium.
Despite the setbacks, Manchester City will be looking to maintain their winning momentum in the FA Cup and advance to the semi-finals of the competition. Guardiola will have to make strategic decisions regarding team selection and tactics to ensure that they can overcome Newcastle United and continue their pursuit of silverware.
In conclusion, Manchester City will face challenges due to key players being unavailable for the FA Cup quarter-final against Newcastle United. Guardiola will need to navigate these obstacles and lead his team to victory as they aim to defend their FA Cup title and achieve further success this season.
