John Stones, a defender for Manchester City, has recently praised his teammate Nathan Ake for his impressive progression at the club. Stones, who has been with Manchester City since 2016, has played alongside many top players during his time at the club. However, he took the time to share some significant praise for Ake, acknowledging his growth and development.
In a recent episode of the Official Man City Podcast, Stones expressed his admiration for Ake, stating, “His journey from Chelsea to Bournemouth to Man City wasn’t easy and now he’s absolutely flying and I couldn’t be happier. He’s an incredible professional, and first and foremost an incredible person. Everyone loves him and loves to be around him. His energy is great. He has grown off the pitch and it’s followed him onto the pitch. The attributes he brings to the game are incredible. He’s so good one versus one and so is his decision making.”
City acquired Ake from Bournemouth in the summer of 2020 for £41 million. Since then, Ake has made 115 appearances for the Citizens across all competitions, scoring 10 goals and providing two assists. This season, he has demonstrated his defensive abilities by making the joint-second-highest number of tackles in the defensive third of the pitch and winning the most aerial duels of any defender in the Premier League at the club.
Despite admitting that his debut season at the Etihad Stadium was not particularly impressive, Ake has shown significant improvement and development under the guidance of manager Pep Guardiola. Stones’ praise for Ake’s progression further emphasizes the impact he has had since joining Manchester City.
