Arsenal legend Ian Wright recently brought up a sensitive topic regarding Manchester City during a conversation about Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola. Since Guardiola took over in 2016, Manchester City has been a dominant force in English football, winning the Premier League five times. This season, they are once again in contention for the title alongside Arsenal and Liverpool.
Despite their success, some critics have hesitated to fully praise City due to the 115 charges they are facing for alleged breaches of financial rules. The Premier League charged them following a lengthy investigation, but a formal hearing is not expected until later this year. If found guilty, City could face severe penalties such as hefty fines, title-stripping, or even relegation.
Speaking on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, Ian Wright pointed out that it’s challenging to assess City’s achievements without a resolution to the pending charges. He acknowledged Guardiola’s success but also highlighted Klopp’s efforts in building a competitive team at Liverpool. Wright emphasized the importance of resolving the legal issues surrounding City so that they can receive the recognition they deserve.
Following City’s recent 1-1 draw with Liverpool, midfielder Rodri expressed the team’s need for a break before the final push of the season. He mentioned the upcoming FA Cup game against Newcastle and international fixtures as opportunities to recharge before the crucial last ten games of the Premier League season. Rodri acknowledged the tough competition ahead but expressed confidence in City’s ability to challenge for the title.
