Manchester City midfielder Rodri has expressed disappointment in his teammates following the team’s 1-1 draw against Chelsea on Saturday.
The draw resulted in a missed opportunity to gain ground in the race for the Premier League title, with both Liverpool and Arsenal winning their respective matches.
As a result of the frustrating draw, Manchester City will not be able to move to the top of the table with a win over Brentford on Tuesday. Furthermore, if they were to suffer a defeat, they would find themselves four points behind current leaders, Liverpool.
During the match, Rodri scored the equalizer in response to Raheem Sterling’s opening goal. Despite Manchester City registering 31 attempts compared to Chelsea’s nine, only six were on target.
The team’s poor defensive record continued, with only 11 clean sheets in 38 matches so far this season.
Rodri voiced his concern over the team’s defensive performance, emphasizing the need for stronger defending in the first half of matches.
He expressed frustration at the missed opportunity for a win and stated that the team deserved more given their second-half performance.
We want to win but we have to check ourselves and in the first-half with our defending we have to be stronger for the rest of the season,” said the Spaniard.
“It’s a point, a draw, of course we want to win and the way we performed second-half we deserved a bit more but when you defend like we did you can’t get more.”
Looking ahead, Manchester City will be aiming to bounce back in their upcoming match against Brentford, followed by fixtures against Bournemouth, Luton Town, and Manchester United.
With the title race heating up, it is crucial for Manchester City to address their defensive vulnerabilities and make the most of their remaining matches in the season.
Pep Guardiola and his team will need to regroup and focus on securing positive results in the upcoming games to keep their title ambitions alive.
