Barcelona legend Albert Ferrer never expected the level of success achieved by one of Manchester City’s heroes at the Etihad Stadium.

The former defender made over 200 senior appearances for Barcelona, coming through the youth ranks at La Masia just before Pep Guardiola made his first team debut at the Camp Nou.

Guardiola’s career in football, both as a player and a manager, has been remarkable. He has revolutionized the sport and is likely to be remembered as one of the greatest managers of all time due to the numerous trophies he has won.

Ferrer, who used to be Guardiola’s roommate during their playing days at Barcelona, admits that while there were signs of his potential, he never anticipated the level of success he would achieve as a manager.

In an interview with the Daily Star, Ferrer shared his relationship with Guardiola, saying, “I debuted in 1990, and half a season later Pep Guardiola came up… So, my relationship, my closest relationship was with Guillermo Amor and Pep Guardiola. I shared a room with Pep for a couple of seasons, so we spent a lot of time together.”

“I’ve got a great affinity with Pep. At that time, we didn’t really imagine he’d be the manager he is now, but you could feel something, especially when he was playing in the middle of the pitch and wanted to be in charge of things.

“But yes, I had a good a good relationship with him.”

Guardiola has won a historic treble at Barcelona in his first season as a manager, followed by another Champions League triumph and unprecedented domestic success in Germany at Bayern Munich. He then moved to Manchester City, where he has claimed five league titles and secured a treble triumph.

The article questions if Guardiola is the best and most influential manager of all time, presenting Sir Alex Ferguson and Sir Matt Busby of Manchester United, Jose Mourinho, Carlo Ancelotti, Johan Cruyff, Helenio Herrera, Arrigo Sacchi, and Rinus Michels as contenders. However, it concludes by suggesting that Guardiola probably tops them all.
