Manchester City is considering the possibility of signing a breakout talent from La Liga this summer, with the player being viewed as a threat from the wings. This news comes after a quiet January transfer window for the club, with minimal arrivals or major departures aside from Kalvin Phillips’ loan move to West Ham United. The club did finalize an agreement for River Plate youngster Claudio Echeverri, but he is not expected to be seen anytime soon as he will remain in South America on loan until next winter.
Looking towards the summer market, Manchester City is usually more active with their first-team recruitment. This forward-planning has led the club officials to La Liga, with Girona’s on-loan star Savio from ESTAC Troyes emerging as a candidate to sign in the coming months.
According to The Athletic’s Sam Lee, Manchester City is ‘looking into the possibility’ of making a move for Savio happen. The 19-year-old has mainly played on the left wing for Girona this season but has previously operated on both wings and in central attacking areas during a spell with PSV. However, Manchester City regards Savio as more of a wide threat.
Throughout the ongoing season, Savio has maintained his position as a mainstay in the Girona lineup, playing an integral role in the club’s performance in La Liga. In 22 appearances in the Spanish top-flight so far this season, he has managed to record five goals and seven assists.
Another player that Manchester City is likely to assess over a potential switch to Pep Guardiola’s first-team squad is Yan Couto, the senior Brazil international talent who also plays for Girona. Given the ongoing feeling that a long-term successor to Kyle Walker may be needed sooner rather than later, Manchester City is keeping a close eye on Couto.
