Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has expressed his thoughts on the impact of having both Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland back in the team for selection.
Guardiola started both De Bruyne and Haaland in a Premier League match for the first time since August during Monday evening’s game against Brentford.
De Bruyne has made four appearances since returning from a long-term hamstring injury in January, while Haaland made his first start since December at the Gtech Community Stadium in west London.
Despite not scoring since November, Haaland still leads the race for the Premier League Golden Boot with 14 goals in 17 appearances.
De Bruyne, on the other hand, has been directly involved in four Premier League goals, contributing to wins against Newcastle United, Burnley and Brentford.
Both players are expected to start in the upcoming match against Everton at the Etihad Stadium, where Manchester City will aim to return to the top of the Premier League table with a win. The team has an unbeaten record against Everton since a 4-0 loss in 2017.
Guardiola has praised the return of the pair, acknowledging the significant impact of Haaland’s goals and De Bruyne’s assists.
“You don’t have to study in Harvard or Yale to understand that [Erling] Haaland’s goals and Kevin De Bruyne’s assists are a big help.”
Manchester City have a busy schedule ahead, with six matches across three competitions scheduled for the remainder of the month. The team also returns to UEFA Champions League action with a last-16 first-leg tie against FC Copenhagen in Denmark.
Haaland has already contributed five goals and one assist in the Champions League this season, in addition to 19 direct goal involvements in 17 Premier League fixtures.
As Guardiola and the team look ahead to their upcoming fixtures, the return of De Bruyne and Haaland provides a valuable boost to their attacking options.
