Manchester City midfielder Matheus Nunes has issued a warning to the club’s Premier League title challengers, highlighting the return of key players to the squad.

Despite a somewhat tumultuous first half of the season, City’s successes in the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup have been uplifting for Pep Guardiola and the players.

The return of Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland from injury has fueled the team’s success in the early weeks of 2024, leading to victories across competitions.

The imminent return of Josko Gvardiol and Jack Grealish further strengthens the squad, giving City the necessary tools to compete seriously in the remaining competitions of the season.

Matheus Nunes asserts that with nearly all players fully fit, it will be challenging for opponents to compete with Manchester City for major honors.

In an interview with Sky Sports, Nunes emphasized the team’s strength with the availability of all its players.

“Specifically in the first-half of the season, we had a lot of players injured,” Nunes highlighted during an interview with Sky Sports. “Maybe that’s what the media meant because now we have almost everyone fully-fit and all the players that we’ve got, and it’s hard for the opponents.”

He continued, “We have an amazing team, probably the best I’ve seen. So of course when we have all the players available it’s tough. In the second-half of the season, like I said, I think the mentality is always there.

“Maybe the results weren’t the ones that we wanted in the first-half of the season because we dropped some points but now with everyone available I think it’s going to be tough for the rest.”

Since joining Manchester City from Wolverhampton Wanderers, Nunes has adapted well to life at the club. Pep Guardiola often utilizes Nunes in matches where there are significant spaces in midfield transitions, leveraging his ability to carry the ball at speed over long distances.

This season, the 25-year-old has made 22 appearances across all competitions for Manchester City, providing five assists in the process. Despite not yet scoring a goal for the club, Nunes has made significant contributions, particularly in the Premier League and UEFA Champions League.

Nunes’ confidence in the team’s ability to compete for major titles serves as a warning to their rivals, signaling that Manchester City is ready to make a strong push in the second half of the season. With key players returning to full fitness, City’s opponents will have a tough challenge ahead in trying to match their level of performance.
