Manchester City is facing increased scrutiny from UEFA regarding their relationship and involvement with Girona.
The two clubs are currently in talks over a potential transfer, with City expected to finalize a deal for one of Girona’s players in the coming weeks.
Specifically, City officials are set to sign highly-rated attacking talent Savio from fellow City Group side ESTAC Troyes, who was loaned to Girona last summer.
However, there are concerns from European football’s governing body about the situation, especially if both clubs secure qualification for the Champions League.
According to the information of iPaper’s Sam Cunningham, Manchester City’s owners may be forced to reduce their stake in Girona should both clubs secure qualification for next season’s edition of the prestigious Champions League.
There could also be restrictions on trading players and collaboration on off-field matters if a conflict arises.
UEFA is currently monitoring the situation, and its ‘Club Financial Control Body’ will assess the links between the two clubs in the upcoming summer if a conflict is confirmed, most likely in June.
Under current rules, only the highest-placed team in their respective league will be able to play in the UEFA Champions League next season.
Manchester City is currently in an intense title challenge with Arsenal and Liverpool, and is only two points behind Liverpool after a recent win over Brentford.
Phil Foden’s hat-trick in the match against Brentford ensured that City capitalized on Liverpool’s defeat and moved closer to the top spot in the league.
Despite their strong position in the league, Manchester City is facing potential challenges from UEFA regarding their relationship with Girona and the implications this could have on their future participation in the Champions League.
