Girona’s sporting director, Quique Cárcel, is advocating for the re-signing of Savio, now a forward for Manchester City, on another loan deal in the upcoming summer market. The Premier League champions have secured the signing of Savio, beating out competition from within England and Germany. It is expected that the teenage forward will join Manchester City’s pre-season campaign under Pep Guardiola. However, City will still consider the possibility of another loan spell for the 19-year-old, with several high-profile clubs likely to enter the race for the player.
According to Cárcel, while Savio is now under the Manchester City ‘umbrella’, the City Group side is in a good position to continue developing the teenager at a senior level. Cárcel believes that Girona’s platform is ideal for Savio’s growth and that another year at Girona would be beneficial for him if the team achieves their goal of being in Europe next year.
Savio has made 25 appearances in La Liga matches this season while on loan from fellow City Group side Troyes, scoring five goals and providing seven assists. His impressive development in Spanish football has also increased his transfer valuation, with expectations that Manchester City will pay in excess of €25 million for the player.
The possibility of another loan deal for Savio remains open, and Girona’s sporting director is making a strong case for the player to continue developing at the club. Whether Manchester City will consider this option remains to be seen, but the potential for Savio to further enhance his skills at Girona is clearly evident.
