Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has commented on the future of Jurgen Klopp following Klopp’s announcement of his exit from Liverpool.
The two Premier League coaches have had multiple high-profile battles for the English top-flight title, and this season is likely to be their final head-to-head contest.
Klopp’s announcement of his departure from Liverpool at the end of the current season surprised the football world, and Guardiola has praised the German tactician.
Guardiola believes that Liverpool’s high standards and level of competition over the years have pushed his own team to achieve astronomical levels.
While some speculate that Klopp will take an extended break from the game, Guardiola has a different opinion.
During a recent conversation with broadcaster TNT Sports, Guardiola expressed his belief that Klopp will return to management, although he doesn’t know where. “He will rest a little bit and relax and take the perspective because every third day season after season, it’s difficult to take a perspective of what I’m doing, who we are, what I want in life,” Guardiola said. “Sometimes to take a break is really good. He’s going to decide his best.”
Guardiola also predicted that Klopp will return to the game after taking a break and making the decision that is best for him.
Liverpool and Manchester City, separated by just one point at the top of the Premier League, have already met once this season and are scheduled to go head-to-head for the final time in this season’s top-flight on 10 March at Anfield.
The Manchester City boss remains complimentary of Klopp and believes that Klopp’s departure from Liverpool marks the end of an era in their high-profile rivalry.
Guardiola’s prediction suggests that Klopp will return to management after taking a break and gaining perspective on his future in the game.
