Ruben Dias expressed his happiness at a Manchester City teammate’s decision to stay with the club over the summer.
The team had a remarkable season last year, achieving a historic treble, and they are determined to replicate that success this year in the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League.
Their recent 11-game winning streak, including a victory against FC Copenhagen, is proof that they are in strong contention for another treble.
Bernardo Silva, who continues to excel in the side, scored City’s second goal in the 3-1 win.
Despite being linked with a big transfer for years, he decided to remain with the club, signing a new contract that will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until 2026.
Ruben Dias, his compatriot, was delighted with this decision, as it ensures that City has an important player in their quest for trophies.
Speaking to The National, Dias said: “At a certain moment last summer I thought he might go but I always tell him that every summer we have this series which is called ‘Bernardo is going nowhere.’
“This is the third summer since I have been here and there is a new episode every year.
“I was really happy when he signed because if you want to win trophies Bernardo is exactly the kind of player you need around you.”
In a summer that saw the arrival of several new players, retaining Bernardo was the most crucial move. He may not receive the same level of attention as other key players, but his presence is essential to how City plays.
His incredible ability on the ball has earned him the trust of Pep Guardiola and has made him an indispensable player. Losing him in the same transfer window as several other experienced players would have been a significant setback for the team.
Dias expressed his relief that Bernardo stayed, mentioning that every summer they have the series ‘Bernardo is going nowhere,’ as his transfer rumors persist. The feeling of having Bernardo around is a reassuring one, knowing that his presence is necessary for City’s success.
City faced many changes at the start of the season, and Bernardo’s decision to stay provided a sense of stability and continuity for the team. His role is crucial to the team’s success in pursuing more trophies, and the entire team and Dias are pleased that he remains a part of the squad.
