Former Newcastle United and England striker Alan Shearer has given his expert opinion on the outcome of the ongoing Premier League title race. Despite the incredibly tight competition at the top, Shearer believes that Manchester City will emerge as the eventual winners.
This season’s title race has proved to be one of the most thrilling in years, with heavyweights Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester City all in contention. Over the weekend, all three clubs secured vital victories in their respective fixtures.
City, in particular, showcased their prowess with a hard-fought win over Everton. Norwegian forward Erling Haaland’s two-goal performance received praise from Neil Lennon, and the impact of Kevin De Bruyne off the bench was particularly lauded.
Despite City sitting in second place in the league, most bookmakers still consider them the favorites to clinch the title, with a game in hand.
Shearer reiterated this sentiment on the Rest Is Football podcast, illustrating his confidence in City’s ability to secure their fourth Premier League title.
Shearer’s prediction comes amidst Arsenal and Liverpool’s respective triumphs. Liverpool secured a 3-1 victory over Burnley, while Arsenal recorded an impressive 6-0 win against West Ham United.
Despite these impressive displays, Shearer remains steadfast in his belief that City will emerge triumphant, noting their fully fit squad and unmatched experience in title races as crucial factors contributing to his prediction.
Asked if he had to be on one of the top three, he said: “I think I would stick with City. I looked at them on Saturday, they didn’t have one player that was out injured. They had a full squad to pick from.”
With City previously winning the title after chasing down Arsenal last season, Shearer draws attention to the team’s resilience and the return of key players like De Bruyne and Haaland as reasons to believe in their success.
He concludes his prediction by emphasizing City’s potential to make history by securing a fourth consecutive Premier League title.
“They’ve been there, they know what they’re doing. We’ve said it so many times. It’s around about now, well they’ve already kicked in haven’t they. How it happens I don’t know, maybe the belief I guess. I would have to say City, although I think it’s going to be really tight.”
Overall, Shearer’s unwavering confidence in Manchester City’s ability to secure the title amidst fierce competition highlights the significance of their current position and the strength of their squad.
