The manager of Manchester City, Pep Guardiola, has apologized again to Kalvin Phillips for comments made about the midfielder’s weight. Phillips completed a loan move to West Ham United in January after receiving interest from several other clubs. He has made four appearances for the Hammers and is aiming to revive his career before the European Championships in Germany this summer.
The move to West Ham is partly motivated by Phillips’ England ambitions, as he looks to revive his international career after stalling at Manchester City. Guardiola had dropped Phillips after the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, citing his weight as a reason. However, Guardiola has recently issued a fresh apology for these comments after Phillips revealed the damaging impact they had.
Guardiola expressed his regret ahead of Manchester City’s clash with Brentford, stating that he had apologized to Phillips directly. Despite the apology, Guardiola clarified that he had spoken to Phillips before addressing the issue publicly.
Phillips previously featured in City’s loss to Brentford and will face them again in the upcoming fixture. A win for Manchester City over Brentford would bring them within one point of the top of the Premier League table, following their 1-1 draw with Chelsea.
The midfielder’s move to West Ham United signals his determination to get more playing time and reignite his career. As he aims for success at the European Championships and beyond, Phillips will be looking to make a positive impact at his new club. With Guardiola’s apology, Phillips can now concentrate on performing at his best for West Ham and potentially make a return to the England squad.
