Simon Jordan has weighed in on the debate about whether Pep Guardiola or Jurgen Klopp is the better manager. Gary Neville recently claimed that in the last six years, Klopp has outperformed Guardiola.
However, Ferdinand ranked Guardiola in second place and Klopp in fifth place among the greatest managers in Premier League history.
In response to this ongoing debate, Martin Keown claimed that Guardiola is the best coach in the history of the sport, while retired Barcelona legend Carles Puyol described Guardiola as “the best by far.”
Despite these opinions, Simon Jordan believes that Jurgen Klopp is a better manager than Pep Guardiola for two reasons.
Firstly, he believes that Klopp has succeeded with a different level of resources and that the brand of football Klopp wants to play is more interesting.
Jordan made this clear in an interview with talkSPORT: “In my view, he’s the best manager around. I do, for different reasons because I think he has to work with a different, as you [Graeme Souness] mentioned, a different level of resource and the brand of football that Jurgen [Klopp] wants to play is more interesting for me on an individual level.”
However, the reasons listed by Simon Jordan to claim that Klopp is better than Guardiola are flawed.
While the rationale regarding the resources both managers have had at their disposal may be considered fair, it is not as if Guardiola has not achieved as much as, if not more than expected, with the backing he has received from City.
Similarly, to use the style of football as a reason to justify that Klopp is superior to Guardiola is unwise, as preferential opinions can lead to biased arguments.
While these debates are interesting, the conclusions seem to be based more on personal preferences rather than objective criteria.
