Erling Haaland has spoken out about his early days at Manchester City and his experience behind the scenes at the club.

After being acquired from Borussia Dortmund during the 2022 summer transfer window for £51m, Haaland had a highly successful debut season with Manchester City, clinching the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League titles.

Following this, Haaland and his City teammates are determined to reclaim their previous year’s titles. The 23-year-old center forward shed light on what it was like when he first joined the club.

In an interview for the Man City Podcast, Haaland reflected on his early days at the club, stating that his main goal was to quickly integrate into the team, understand the club environment, and adapt to their playing style while also aiming to win the Champions League.

Haaland expressed that he was thrilled from the very first day he arrived at Manchester City, citing a positive atmosphere in the locker room and at the CFA that made him feel welcomed and motivated, which translated to his performance on the pitch.

He said: “My first weeks and months, I wanted to get settled in the team as quickly as possible. To get to know people, get to know the whole club and how they play and how they do things. In the big picture, it was to win the Champions League. That’s what I said when I came here, that was the goal.

“From the first day I came here, I enjoyed it. There are good vibes in the locker room and in the CFA, so I felt like it was a place I wanted to come to and an environment I wanted to be in and I think you saw that on the pitch as well.”

He demonstrated an exceptional level of adaptation by scoring 17 goals in just 11 Premier League games after joining the club and a total of 52 goals in 53 games across all competitions by the end of the season, setting several records along the way.

Haaland’s revelation regarding the positive atmosphere in the dressing room following his arrival suggests that it might have played a significant role in his outstanding goal-scoring performance on the field.

Furthermore, now that Haaland has recovered from an ankle injury, if he can resume his consistent goal-scoring form, it would greatly enhance Manchester City’s chances of securing additional silverware under Pep Guardiola’s management.

These experiences and Haaland’s insights into his early days with Manchester City highlight the value of a welcoming and motivating environment in a club and how it can significantly impact a player’s performance.
