Manchester City are reportedly looking to secure a deal for West Ham United and Brazil international midfielder Lucas Paqueta this summer, under certain conditions.
The Etihad Stadium had targeted a move for Paqueta during the last summer transfer window as they prepared for life without Kevin De Bruyne due to injury.
However, a FA investigation over gambling forced the club to withdraw their interest. Now, in the summer transfer window of 2024, Manchester City are expected to return with a fresh proposal for Paqueta.
According to Manchester City insider ‘Tolmie’s Hairdoo’ on X, a transfer fee of £45 million plus the services of Kalvin Phillips could seal the deal between Manchester City and West Ham for Paqueta.
Negotiations are ongoing, and it is expected that Paqueta may want to come to Manchester City if he is cleared of his gambling allegations by then.
Phillips, on the other hand, is expected to complete a move to West Ham on a six-month loan deal in the hopes of reviving his top-level playing career.
At 28 years old, Phillips has struggled to secure consistent playing time with Manchester City since joining the club from Leeds United in 2022.
West Ham, long-time admirers of Phillips, have secured an option to buy him on a permanent deal at the end of the season.
The Premier League champions are looking to strengthen their midfield, and it seems they see Paqueta as the solution.
Despite the previous setback, they are willing to make another attempt to sign the talented Brazilian midfielder. As negotiations continue, the football world awaits the outcome of the potential deal between the two clubs.
