Tottenham Hotspur player Pedro Porro recently discussed his relationship with Manchester City following his brief time with the club. City signed Porro in 2019, loaning him to Real Valladolid.
However, after a short stint with Valladolid, Porro joined Sporting CP on a two-year loan, eventually leading to a move to Tottenham in January 2023.
In an interview with Spanish newspaper AS, Porro reflected on his time at Manchester City, acknowledging the initial trust they placed in him, even if he did not ultimately fit into their plans.
Despite not getting game time at City, Porro expressed that the experience shaped him into the player he is today and that he respects City’s decision.
“They signed me from Girona and that love for trusting me at that moment, even if I didn’t fit into their plans later, does make it a little special for me,” Porro admitted. “Our paths separated, I wish them the best and me to continue with my life.”
Porro’s move to Tottenham has reignited discussions about his time at City and whether he holds any regrets about not getting the opportunity to play.
However, he maintained that he has no regrets and that he accepts what happened, acknowledging that it ultimately contributed to his growth as a player.
“At that moment what happened, happened, and as a result of that I’m the player I am today. If they saw that I was not ready for the Premier League at that time, I respect their decision.”
Manchester City and Tottenham have faced each other twice this season, with City scoring their first-ever goal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in their most recent encounter, securing their place in the fifth round of the competition.
Porro’s journey from City to Tottenham has been an interesting one, showing resilience and determination to succeed despite initial setbacks. His positive outlook on his experience at City and his progression to Tottenham reflects his maturity and growth as a professional footballer.
The young player’s journey serves as a reminder that setbacks can lead to growth and development, and that each experience contributes to shaping a player’s career. Porro’s success at Tottenham is a testament to his perseverance and dedication to his craft.
