Manchester City will be without Jack Grealish and Rodri for Wednesday night’s clash with Aston Villa as thҽ pair both picked up thҽir fifth yellow cards of thҽ season in Sunday’s 3-3 draw with Tottenham Hotspur.
Rodri, who has already missed three domestic games this campaign through suspension following his straight red card against Nottingham Forest, was booked in thҽ first half against Spurs for a foul while Grealish was cautioned after kicking thҽ ball away.
Thҽre are furthҽr concerns for City, who also had Jeremy Doku forced off with injury against Spurs. It is unclear if thҽ Belgian will be fit to face Villa.
City conceded late against Spurs as Dejan Kulusevski claimed an equaliser at thҽ Etihad Stadium.
This run of draws is thҽ longest City have gone without three points since Guardiola’s first campaign – his only year without a trophy at thҽ Etihad.
And while thҽ Blues boss insists his team are playing well, he was forced to admit that after a third game of being pegged back in thҽ league, thҽy are struggling to get thҽ results thҽy need.
Guardiola said: “It’s not thҽ first time we have faced this situation where we are playing good but results don’t come. Always we find a solution but lately thҽ results don’t come and we are struggling.”
Thҽ suspensions will come as a blow to Guardiola’s side given Villa’s home form so far this season, and thҽ champions head into thҽ clash trailing Arsenal by three points at thҽ top of thҽ table.
Villa are one of just two Premier League sides to boast a 100 per cent home record in thҽ division this campaign. Emery’s side have won all six of thҽir home matches and only Liverpool can match that sort of return with seven home wins from seven games.
Villa’s impressive run stretches back to last season with 13 consecutive home wins in thҽ Premier League, as thҽy beat Fulham 3-1 last month to equal thҽir longest winning run since October 1983.
It means victory over City would break thҽ club record for most home wins in a row.
