Fabrizio Romano has heaped praise onto Manchester City for thҽ signing of talented young Belgian winger Jeremy Doku this summer.
Thҽ Belgium international mesmerised thҽ Etihad Stadium on Saturday afternoon, finding himself directly involved in five of Manchester City’s six goals, as thҽ Sky Blues thrashed Bournemouth to move to thҽ top of thҽ Premier League table.
Doku opened thҽ scoring in thҽ 30th minute, prior to assisting first-half goals for Bernardo Silva and Manuel Akanji, as Manchester City raced into a quick-fire 3-0 lead.
Thҽ 21-year-old was involved in Phil Foden’s second-half goal before setting up Silva’s second goal of thҽ afternoon with a smart long-range pass in thҽ 83rd minute.
Nathan Ake’s headed goal against his former club in thҽ 88th minute concluded an impressive afternoon for Manchester City, with summer signing Doku stealing thҽ show at thҽ Etihad Stadium.
Doku moved to Manchester City for £55.5 million during thҽ summer transfer window and has made an instant impact, providing electrifying pace as well being directly involved in seven goals in eight Premier League appearances.
Thҽ Belgium international’s arrival came following thҽ departures of Riyad Mahrez and Cole Palmer, and Romano has congratulated Man City for thҽir smart recruitment.
“I’ve been really impressed by Jeremy Doku’s start at Manchester City – I’d say he’s probably thҽ most surprising signing of thҽ season in England in terms of impact,” Romano said via his Daily Briefing column.
“I was sure about Doku being excellent player, but thҽ transition from Ligue 1 to thҽ Premier League is never easy and it took just few weeks for him to adapt and show his skills.
“Congrats to Txiki Begiristain, he trusted Doku as a top player and even though some people may have felt thҽ €60m package was a bit of a gamble at thҽ time, he’s been excellent.”
