Arsenal looking to move for another Man City star in January

Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims Arsenal are eyeing up a move for midfielder Kalvin Phillips.

The 27-year-old, who failed to start Manchester City’s loss to Wolves in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon despite the absence of Rodri, has made just five starts since signing from Leeds United in July 2022.

The England midfielder has struggled for regular game time with the Premier League champions and he could look to leave the club soon.

He had been linked with a potential summer exit from the Etihad Stadium after an underwhelming debut campaign. Several European clubs enquired about potentially signing the Englishman.

Liverpool and Bayern Munich were amongst the clubs claimed to be interested in signing Phillips during the summer transfer window, and after failing to impress Pep Guardiola against Newcastle in midweek, question marks will once again arise surrounding the midfielder’s future in east Manchester.

The England midfielder started at Newcastle on Wednesday as City were dumped out of the Carabao Cup. Phillips’ big week ended back on the bench at Wolves and though he saw some action at Molineux, he couldn’t stop City sliding to consecutive defeats.

If Pep Guardiola’s willingness to wave him off during the summer wasn’t a hint heavy enough that perhaps Phillips should look to continue his career elsewhere, being kept on the bench even in the absence of Rodri should help the 27-year-old get the message.

A report from Fichajes claims that Arsenal are determined to bring in a quality midfielder and they have identified Phillips as a priority.

The England international will hope to get his career back on track and a move to Arsenal could be ideal for him.

It remains to be seen how the situation develops and whether Manchester City are prepared to cash in on him during the January transfer window.

Whether City would be willing to sell to a title rival mid-season is up for debate and while Guardiola clearly doesn’t rate the £42million signing from Leeds, he will be wary of the fact Arteta feels Phillips would bring something to Arsenal.
