Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims Crystal Palace are weighing up an ambitious move for centre-back Aymeric Laporte.
The 29-year-old has found himself on the fringes of Manchester City’s central defensive options following the most recent season, with manager Pep Guardiola placing his teammates ahead of him in his ranking.
Having fallen way down Pep Guardiola’s defensive pecking order – behind Ruben Dias, Manuel Akanji, Nathan Ake and John Stones – the former Athletic Bilbao central defender is keen to get away.
And he is aware that situation is not going to improve as the English champions close in on an £80million deal for RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol.
According to the Daily Star, Laporte is keen to secure a move away from the Etihad this summer with Crystal Palace hoping to entice him to south London.
With two years left on the Spanish international’s contract, the Sky Blues are demanding a £35 million fee to surrender his services.
However, as per the report, Palace are currently ‘reluctant’ to agree to City’s demands and instead, are waiting until further down the transfer window before they decide to put in a formal bid to sign him.
The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.
@JanYoUnchained: “Laporte rejected Spurs, what makes these guys think he’ll go to them?”
@JustRickMCFC: “Jeez that’s disrespectful”
@brxnworld: “The downgrade would be amazing”
@facewithoutcard: “No chance Laporte moves to Palace – he’ll only go abroad”
@AndyWhittl3: “Nah, he’s way too good for that level. Starts for every single prem club other than City..”
@IsaacMCFC: “He’s easily one of the most disrespected footballers in the world right now. He deserves a top European team.”
@n_a11en: “No disrespect intended to Palace but I don’t see why Laporte goes along with this.”
@Doozy_45: “I know I seem to be in the minority, but I’d prefer us to keep Aymeric.. I rate him highly. He hardly puts a foot wrong. I understand in the hectic world of football tough decisions need to be made, especially regarding our interest in Gvardiol etc.. Just be sad to see him leave”
