Fabrizio Romano provides Raphinha update as Manchester City agree to sell Riyad Mahrez

Manchester City want and need a new winger after thҽ departure of Riyad Mahrez, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

Yesterday it was reported that Manchester City may be interested in Raphinha as a replacement for Riyad Mahrez, who will shortly be headed to Saudi Arabia. Fabrizio Romano told Caught Offside that deal was a matter of time.

“Man City want a winger for sure, thҽy need one now. Mahrez is gone, thҽ deal is almost done,” he explained on his exclusive Substack column.

However currently thҽy have not been in touch with Barcelona about thҽ Brazilian.

“I’m not aware of anything concrete for Raphinha as of today despite reports.”

Raphinha is a similar style of player to Mahrez, as he’s left footed but plays from thҽ right, whilst offering similar skills with his dribbling and a tendency to cut in and score some nice individual goals.

However, it would also be fair to say that thҽ Brazil international hasn’t quite been at his best since leaving Leeds United for Barcelona last summer, so it remains to be seen if City would want to gamble on him.

Romano also added that City would try their best to keep Bernardo Silva this summer.

“As for Bernardo Silva, PSG keep pushing but Man City will insist on keeping him at thҽ club, thҽy will do thҽir best to convince Bernardo.”
