Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims Pep Guardiola’s side are ready to turn their full attention to signing Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic this summer.
Chelsea have accepted the likelihood that Mateo Kovacic will leave the club this summer after spending five years at Stamford Bridge.
The Croatian midfielder joined the Blues on loan from Real Madrid for the 2018/19 campaign before signing a permanent deal the following summer.
Kovacic has helped Chelsea win the Champions League, Europa League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup but now looks set for a new challenge next season.
City could be in the market for at least one midfielder this summer, with the future of Ilkay Gundogan uncertain.
The 32-year-old’s contract is set to expire this summer, with Barcelona said to be eyeing a free transfer. Bernardo Silva is also open to leaving City.
Pep Guardiola’s side are one of several top European clubs eyeing Bellingham, with the 19-year-old set to be the most in-demand player of the summer.
However, recent reports have suggested the midfielder would prefer a move to Real Madrid, with Football Insider reporting that Manchester City could turn their full attention towards Chelsea’s Mateo Kovacic.
The Croatia international will enter the final year of his contract at Stamford Bridge this summer and could be one of several players sold as Chelsea try and balance the books of their massive spending.
The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.
@Mo_Aziz17: “I have mixed feelings but he will be a great choice.”
@tom_adwar: “Alexis Mac Allister is a better option. Infact is a top 5 attacking midfielders right now. Get him”
@SilkyCyrus_74: “He’s an amazing player if he can stay fit enough.”
@1ashermorris_: “Good low budget addition. Don’t see the sence of spending £80m on the likes of Mac Allister who wouldn’t move the needle or be a bona fide starter..”
@Chill_Foden: “He’s a perfect Gundo replacement, infact he’s an underated dribbler.”
@ZinnySZN: “He’s 29, may aswell just keep Gundo.”
@Riyad_SZN: “why are people hating on this? kovacic is class and would be a great replacement for Gundo if he leaves.”
@rmhoek: “Good squad depth, would have been useful last night (against Real Madrid). Pep had 0 midfielders to sub on (Phillips isn’t trusted)”
@Sphosomhle: “Always felt he was a near perfect Pep midfielder.”
@CitehSide: “People need to understand that he’s a quality player but has lost his form a bit recently.”
