Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report of the club’s interest in Melbourne City and Australia left-back Jordan Bos.
The 20 year-old left-back has been the standout young player in Australia this season. He has 1 goal and 3 assists to his name in the league this season, but that doesn’t accurately reflect his impact going forward.
His athleticism and speed makes him hard to stop from a variety of situations. He can both overlap and invert and is an aggressive defender who is deceptively strong.
He can be overzealous in some situations but he is not weak defensively by any means. He wins the vast majority of his defensive duels and his athleticism and acceleration means he can track back and recover effectively.
In 1v1 attacking situations he is hard to stop. He is skilful and very quick. He uses stepovers and nutmegs to beat defenders and his speed over both short and longer distances is very good, especially at an A-League level.
Passing is not his biggest strenght, but an understated feature of his game is his vision and technique creating chances cutting back onto his right foot – playing passes into the left-hand channel. In inverted fullback systems, this is very valuable.
He recently made his full international debut vs. Ecuador. He was impressive in his cameo. He completed 2 dribbles in 36 minutes and was confident in all his touches. He has the talent to succeed wherever he goes.
After the departure of Joao Cancelo, Nathan Ake has been deployed in the left-back position where he has performed reasonably well, but it is not his natural position and the signing of Jordan Bos is repo being considered by Pep Guardiola’s side ahead of summer transfer window.
According to an April. 10, 2023, post on Twitter by Australian professional football scout, Melbourne City and Australia left-back Jordan Bos (2002) is attracting serious interest from Manchester City.
They claim Man City are in negotiations with Melbourne City to sign the Australia international left-back, with the player’s agent already in Manchester in an attempt to close the deal.
The report shared on Twitter gathered a number of replies from a wide range of Man City supporters.
He reminds me of Cancelo but looks defensively more sound. The way he moves is so similar lol.

@Bbouy_1: “Excellent attacking LB.”
@antmarkmcr: “He has been unreal for Melbourne City this season. I hope this is,true!,”
@_VAX_1: “Oh boy, hopefully, it ain’t another Gomez”
@tombrailsford: “Just gonna be another Gomez but hope I’m wrong”
@Sashank: “LB that is 20 year old also from an affiliate. Yeah he is slotting right in. No loans I’d assume. Because he was already at an affiliate as well. I’m off to youtube to see if any comps are available.”
@TrueBlueCitizen: “He’s clear of Cancelo and Gomez already trust me”
@MedleyDave: “Seen him a lot this season, as he’s broken through and pushed Jamieson out. He’s six foot tall, confident going forward and has reasonable pace. Don’t know how well he’d do the inverted “midfield left back” role, but he’s a better defender than Gomez.”
@Zichoni1: “The boy is not bad.. he looks flexible, comfortable, can shoot with both legs and skilful..Pep can work wonders with him”
