Manchester City are reportedly growing frustrated with Bernardo Silva’s simmering desire for a new challenge, with Barcelona continuing to circle.
Silva has been a key player for Manchester City since joining the club from AS Monaco, and he has helped them win several trophies during his time in the Premier League.
The 28-year-old was heavily linked with the move away from the Premier League club last summer as well. But Manchester City managed to keep him at the club.
Silva has shown his versatility this season in City’s fluid tactical system. From 37 appearances in all competitions, he has scored four goals and provided five assists.
There have been a few claims recently that it could be his last season at the Etihad Stadium. By the summer, there will only be two years remaining on his contract.
In Sunday’s edition of Sport, it’s claimed that Silva remains keen for a ‘change of scenery’ after six successful years at the Etihad Stadium.
The report states that the Barcelona initial attempts to sign Silva were thwarted by Frenkie de Jong’s refusal to leave, despite a deal being agreed with Manchester United.
Sport add that in a meeting between Man City chiefs and Silva’s agent Jorge Mendes, director of football Txiki Begiristain said: “If you want to go, go!”
As per the report, City are open to selling Silva in the summer for €60m (£57m), a ‘dramatically’ lower figure than what had been recently touted in the British and Spanish media, with some reports pricing the 28-year-old as highly as £88m as per the Athletic.
The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.
@Dan51748908: “Well done Txiki, no player is bigger than the club..”
@henabliss: “About time really. Sick of all the teasing every summer”
@Fodenrole_: “He’s had enough.”
@kinzartist: “Hope this is true tbh everyone’s bored of the flirting”
@KevRole: “I have immense respect for Bernardo and wishing him nothing but the very best. If he believes leaving us would allow him to achieve more, then just let him go. A player’s happiness is the most important.”
@ManCityDelhi: “Gotta respect Bernardo. Gives his 100% on the pitch every time. Then goes to Txiki everyday to inform he wants to leave. And this news only reaches journalists sitting in Spain covering Barca..”
@Stuartharris_91: “Unbelievable player but if he wants to go he’s earned the right just hope it’s not on the cheap and we actually get his worth”
@PepDegree: “I love Bernardo but it’s just getting boring at this point. I think we can do with a squad refresh.”
