Manchester City defender Kyle Walker has admitted that Manchester City missed a big opportunity in the Premier League title race on Sunday as Pep Guardiola’s side lost 1-0 at Tottenham with leaders Arsenal losing the day before at Everton.
City continued their dismal record at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as Harry Kane became Spurs’ all-time record goalscorer with his 267th goal for the club.
It was the Citizens’ third successive away defeat in all competitions and kept them five points behind Arsenal at the top of the Premier League, having played a game more.
But Walker – league champion in 2017–18, 2018–19, 2020–21 and 2021–22, has warned Arsenal there are ‘twists and turns’ to come in the title race,
Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, he admitted it was a missed opportunity, saying: “Of course it is, of course it is, because they dropped points. We needed to pick up on [that] to close the gap.
“But there’s still a lot of football to play, I’ve been here many years in the Premier League and I know the twists and turns that can happen. And I know what this team is about, I know what this team can do.
Mikel Arteta’s side have mounted their first genuine title charge since the Invincibles campaign of 2003/04 and will need to have luck on their side at times as was the case on Sunday.
Moreover, how serious the Gunners’ title bid is will become even more apparent in just over a week as City travel to the Emirates Stadium on February 15.
