Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims Nathan Ake is set to be rewarded for his impressive displays with a new contract at the Etihad.
Ake joined City three years ago for £42 million after having a successful three years at Bournemouth under current Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe.
Before the start of the season Nathan Ake looked like he was surplus to requirements at Manchester City with the Dutch international looking like he was going to re-join his old club Chelsea with Thomas Tuchel wanting him for his back three but Pep Guardiola did eventually block the deal
Fast forward to February and he has been one of the most important players under Guardiola this season in his own variation of a three at the back system.
He has played 26 games in all competitions this season and has been often used as either a left-back or left sided centre back whose role is to over the whole left hand side and he has performed it exceptionally well.
The 28-year-old defender, who is one of Manchester City’s most consistent players this season, is reportedly set to be rewarded with a new contract.
According to Journalist Harry Pratt via the Daily Star, Ake will be given a new contract this summer with a significant pay rise.
It will be a long-term deal for the 28-year-old who is currently earning £80,000 a week but that is set to go up to £120,000 emphasising how highly he has been rated this campaign.
The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.
