La Liga giant Barcelona have reportedly rule out a summer splurge to sign Manchester City midfielder Rodri as Busquets replacement.
Earlier this month, the Spanish media claimed Barcelona are targeting Rodri as a direct replacement for Sergio Busquets, with the club even prepared to shell out as much as €90 million for the services of the Manchester City superstar.
They even claimed that the Man City midfielder would be open to discussing a switch to Camp Nou despite being happy with his current situation at the Etihad Stadium.
However, Alfredo Martinez via SPORT has recently clarified that Barcelona are not in a position to afford Rodri.
As per the Journalist, the Spanish international is currently the third-highest-paid player in the Manchester City team and it would be impossible for Barça to match his salary.
Not to mention, the Catalans are not in a position to undertake a transfer worth up to €70 million due to Financial Fair Play restrictions in La Liga. These factors have led to the Blaugrana ruling out a move for Rodri, as the transfer is deemed impossible this summer.
Elsewhere, reports from TEAMtalk [via The Hard Tackle] indicate Guardiola and key figures responsible for transfers at the Etihad Stadium are “monitoring” Inter Milan full-back Federico Dimarco as one possible replacement for Portugal defender Joao Cancelo.
Cancelo was allowed to complete a loan move to Bayern Munich on January deadline day and his future with the Premier League champions remains up in the air. Dimarco operates as a left-back and could be snapped-up for around £50-55million when the market reopens.
