Manchester City defensive duo John Stones and Ruben Dias have returned to training following recent injuries ahead of Premier League clash with Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday night.
Pep Guardiola’s side will be looking to bounce back from consecutive defeats across the Carabao Cup and Premier League last week, as their quarter-final exit at the hands of Southampton was followed by Derby Day heartache in a 2-1 defeat to Manchester United.
Guardiola has been working with three centre-backs – Manuel Akanji, Aymeric Laporte and Nathan Ake – over the last two games, but may be able to call upon greater resources for Thursday’s clash with Tottenham Hotspur.
Ahead of their next game against Tottenham Hotspur at the Etihad Stadium on Thursday night, City have received a mixed bag of first-team fitness updates.
According to Sky Sports News, Ruben Dias and John Stones have returned to training following recent injuries, but Kevin De Bruyne was not involved in Tuesday’s session.
Stones missed Saturday’s Manchester derby due to a niggle, with the problem also ruling him out of last week’s trip to Southampton.
As for Dias, he’s not played at all for City since the World Cup after he picked up a hamstring issue while representing Portugal in Qatar. His leadership in defence will be a much-needed boost to a back-line that has been found under fire following disappointing results.
The news was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.
