Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims the club is interested in signing Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell following the loan departure of Joao Cancelo to Bayern Munich.

City have shock many by letting Joao Cancelo join Bayern Munich on an initial loan, according to The Athletic.

City’s decision to allow the full-back to leave comes amid a reported deterioration in the Portugal international’s relationship with manager Pep Guardiola, which culminated in a training ground bust-up prior to Friday’s FA Cup win over Arsenal.

The Blues are claimed to be looking to replace Cancelo, though it is yet to be seen whether the club will be active in the final hours of the January transfer window or wait until the summer.

According to the Daily Mail, the reigning Premier League champions could move in for the England international having allowed Cancelo to leave on loan, with City having a long-standing interest in Chilwell despite the defender’s recent injury problems.

As per the report, City were interested in signing Chilwell in the summer before moving on to Marc Cucurella and ultimately Sergio Gomez. However, with Cancelo leaving for Bayern, there’s now a chance that Pep Guardiola could go back in for the Chelsea star.

The report shared on Twitter gathered a number of replies from a wide range of Man City supporters.
