Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims Pep Guardiola has already spoken with Joško Gvardiol about a move to the Etihad and the project at the club.
The 20-year-old young defender’s immense World Cup form has intensified interest in his signature, with European giants among the heavyweights in the frame.
Gvardiol’s stock has undergone a meteoric rise during the World Cup in Qatar, standing out as one of the tournament’s top players. He has amazed many with his leadership at a young age, defensive awareness, passing and last-ditch tackling to help Croatia reach an unlikely back-to-back semi-final.
Whilst Gvardiol is focused on the World Cup, and helping Croatia progress to their second-consecutive final, behind the scenes, his agent is sorting out his future.
As reported earlier, Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea have all made a bid for the centre-back, who is currently preparing to face Argentina in the semi-final of the World Cup in Qatar.
According to Foot Mercato, Manchester City are prepared to heavily invest in Red Bull Leipzig centre-back Joško Gvardiol in order to “short-circuit” the competition.
It is stated that the Premier League champions would be prepared to make him the most expensive defender in the world, and have made a bid for Joško Gvardiol that could rise to €110M and includes a 20% sell-on bonus.
The report claims Pep Guardiola has taken it upon himself to convince Gvardiol that City is the team to join. Man City would like to buy the 20-year-old this winter, and then allow him to return to RB Leipzig to complete the season in order to convince them to sell to the defender.
A meeting took place between Manchester City, Leipzig and Gvardiol’s representatives in Zagreb in the last few days to discuss the potential deal and the suggestion is that things should continue to progress in the coming days and weeks.
The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.

“Paper talk..no true….City are well covered at the Centre back positions… midfield and right forward are the areas City will look to strengthen this summer.”

“This guy looks an absolute class act. Looks more dominant physically than the current centre back options we have and he is only TWENTY!.”

“I would 100% take him. Best young CB on the market. However, it doesn’t make sense unless we let Laporte go.”

“Monumental upgrade on Laporte, wouldn’t be surprised if Laporte went to Barca or Juve next.”

“People in the comments are very short sighted whereas there is obviously planning done at the club. Gvardiol is young (20) and will probably mean a more experienced player (e.g Ake or Laporte) could leave this summer. Or Pep is bringing him in as a LB option; which he can do.”

“It’s like Txiki said. If we find a super talent (like Alvarez) we’ll do bussines in january. So I believe it’ll be worth it. Sadly, one of Laporte, Stones, Dias, Ake, Akanji will leave. Akanji have just signed so it’s not gonna be him. I think Ake will make room..”
