Rio Ferdinand has heaped praise on England youngster Jude Bellingham, who has been heavily linked with a to Manchester City.
Ferdinand believes Bellingham, 19, is ahead of England legends Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard, and Paul Scholes when they were at this same age of their career.
On Monday afternoon, Bellingham made his World Cup debut, scoring a goal as England defeated Iran 6-2.
The Borussia Dortmund midfielder rose to head in Luke Shaw’s cross and put the Three Lions ahead against Carlos Quieroz’s men.
Bellingham then went on to dominate the midfield as England kicked off their 2022 FIFA World Cup campaign with a win.
His outstanding performance for Gareth Southgate’s side earned him praise from the footballing world.
“Great midfielders from our generation have represented England over the years.” “Scholes, Gerrard, Lampard, to name three, Gascoigne, and so on,” Ferdinand told Vibe with Five.
“None of those guys, none of them, were doing what Jude Bellingham is doing at this age on the world stage.” This kid is doing everything, including playing Champions League football.
“I’m not saying he is better than them, I am not saying he is going to be better than them, but right now, at this age, he is doing what none of them have done. He is ahead.”
Jermaine Jenas is also a fan, unsurprisingly.
He believes Bellingham is Gerrard and Lampard “rolled into one”.
“Jude Bellingham is a throwback, he can really do it all,” he said.
“Bellingham is like Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard rolled into one. He won the ball back so often today, England’s best quality today was their counterpress and he was at the forefront of that.”
