Manchester City and Liverpool have both recently been linked with a spectacular winter move for Benfica’s Enzo Fernandez.
Benfica signed Fernandez in the summer from River Plate for just €12 million (£10.45 million) from River Plate and his performances since have alerted some of Europe’s biggest clubs.
According to Portuguese outlet Record, Premier League sides Manchester City and Liverpool are ready to battle it out for the signing of 21-year-old Benfica midfielder Enzo Fernandez this winter.
However, the Argentinian midfielder is now valued by Transfermarkt at €35 million (£30 million), having spent just a few months in Lisbon, while he is also protected by a €120 million (£104 million) release clause.
The report also claims that Benfica know about the interest from top clubs and that they are already preparing for his departure but they want to sell him next summer, not this January.
Man City and Liverpool aren’t the only clubs interested in the midfielder with Erik ten Hag apparently making the Argentine his number-one target.
Elsewhere, Manchester City have held ‘conversations’ with Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham ahead of a potential 2023 move, according to journalist Mike Keegan.
Premier League clubs Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool, alongside the Sky Blues, have all been credited with a strong interest in the 19-year-old.
Reports have suggested that Real Madrid are currently leading the race, though a promising update has now emerged that supporters will be excited to hear.
Taking to Twitter, Keegan revealed that City have now held formal talks with Bellingham, and the club’s existing connection to Dortmund following the Erling Haaland transfer could prove advantageous in the race for his signature. He wrote:
“Those with knowledge of the situation reckon Jude Bellingham ends up at Manchester City. Relations between both clubs very strong post-Haaland & told initial conversations have been held. A great World Cup may price him out this summer but he’s not seeing out his contract.”
