Erling Haaland is sixth on Forbes’ football rich list. The Manchester City forward places just behind of Mohamed Salah.
Forbes named their top 10 richest players in world football this week. There was a place for Haaland too, with Man City’s no.9 coming in sixth.
They claim his earnings – $39 mil for the 2022/23 season – combine $35 mil from football with around $4 mil coming from ‘off-field’ endorsements. It’s a sizeable number for the Norwegian striker.
Reports suggest Haaland’s next shoe deal could be worth as much as $18 million annually. His previous agreement with Nike expired this year.
But while Haaland makes the top six, he’s nowhere near the players ahead of him. Salah sits fifth, estimated to earn $53 mil this season while Neymar sits in fourth, estimated to earn $87 mil this season.
Then things just get crazier. Cristiano Ronaldo is third at an estimated $100 mil, with Lionel Messi above him at $120 mil.
For the first time since Forbes starting doing the list, there’s a new no.1 – Kylian Mbappé. He’ll make about $128 mil this season, almost all of which comes from Paris Saint-Germain.
In fact, Forbes believes that Mbappé’s earnings in football alone would place him in top spot. His off-field earnings are actually slightly lower than Salah’s.
The next Manchester City player on list is Kevin De Bruyne, with the Belgian coming in tenth position.
They claim his earnings – around $29 mil for the 2022/23 season – combine $25 mil from football with around $4 mil coming from ‘off-field’ endorsements.
As per the report, despite signing with Roc Nation in 2019, De Bruyne and his father led negotiations that yielded his latest contract with Manchester City, employing the help of data firm Analytics FC with the process. He has 11 brand deals that include Nike, Wow Hydrate, Credit Karma and Therabody.
