Manchester City will return to Premier League action at lunchtime on Saturday when they take on Leicester City at the King Power Stadium.
Having trailed Arsenal for most of the early stages of the new season, Pep Guardiola’s side have the chance to top the table by a point ahead of the Gunners’ game with Nottingham Forest on Sunday.
The early kick-off sees the Premier League champions take on a Leicester side who are only just regaining some sort of form, having won three out of their last five matches.
Prior to that, the Foxes managed to win just one of the 21 points available to them, explaining their current position of 17th in the Premier League table.
City bounced back from defeat to Liverpool by seeing off Brighton 3-1 last weekend, before a much-changed side drew 0-0 with Borussia Dortmund in midweek.
Pep Guardiola is expected to recall those who dropped to the bench, although there are question marks over the fitness of Erling Haaland.
Team News
Haaland has dealt City an injury scare after coming off against Borussia Dortmund in midweek, and was pictured limping following the game.
Haaland is “better” according to Pep Guardiola but will need to come through training on Friday afternoon before a decision is made on the Premier League game.
Guardiola said: “We have training this afternoon and we’ll assess in a few hours. We’ll see how he feels, if he’s fit and after we’ll decide. I will know it in two hours if he is able to play or not.”
Should Haaland not feature, or start on the bench, Guardiola confirmed that fellow summer signing Julian Alvarez will start.
Guardiola added: “If Haaland doesn’t play then Alvarez is the natural first option to replace him.”
Joao Cancelo was also able to play just 45 minutes due to illness, but his chances of starting at the King Power are seemingly better than Haaland’s, while Kalvin Phillips and Kyle Walker are both still absent, and Sergio Gomez is available again after a Champions League ban.
