Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne could break two Premier League records on Sunday when he takes to the field against Manchester United.
The highly anticipated clash between the two rivals is expected to be closer than last season’s meetings between the pair. De Bruyne scored twice back in March as the Blues trounced United 4-1 at the Etihad Stadium in the most recent derby.
City have once again started the season strong and have yet to taste defeat in the Premier League this campaign. Erik ten Hag’s side meanwhile have recovered from a tricky start to win four matches on the bounce in the league.
De Bruyne has already started racking up the assists for the Blues in 2022/23. He has so far managed eight assists thanks to his link-up play with talisman Erling Haaland.
Should he be able to add another couple this weekend, De Bruyne could topple two long-standing Premier League records. If the Belgian playmaker provides one assist against United, he will have more assists in the top flight than Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard.
Gerrard’s record stands at 92 and the pair are currently equal following De Bruyne’s last performance at Wolves. One assist would also see him match David Silva’s Premier League assist record with the two City greats then matched at 93 in the top flight.
