Manchester City travel to Sevilla to kick off another Champions League campaign on Tuesday night, in which they aim to lift the trophy for the first time in their history after multiple close calls and heartbreaking exits.
The Sky Blues remain undefeated in the Premier League, winning four of their first six games and drawing two. After dropping points against Aston Villa in a 1-1 draw, City will be aiming to return to winning ways against Sevilla on Tuesday night.
Pep Guardiola will be hoping his side begin their Champions League campaign in similar style to last season, when they beat Leipzig 6-3.
As for Sevilla, they are without a win in their opening four league games, leaving them 16th in the table.
The Spanish club failed to reach the knockout stage of the competition last campaign, finishing third in their group and being eliminated from the Europa League at the round of 16 stage.
With that being said, here’s all the information you need to know ahead of City’s European clash with Sevilla.
Team News
Man City already have Aymeric Laporte (knee) out of contention for Tuesday’s game, and Guardiola has also been handed a concern over Kyle Walker, who came off injured late on in the draw with Villa.
Walker’s injury could see Joao Cancelo move back to the right-hand side as either Sergio Gomez or Nathan Ake take up the left-back role, although the latter is only just back from the treatment room himself, and the visitors will also hope to have Kalvin Phillips back from a shoulder issue.
John Stones’ unexpected absence and Aymeric Laporte’s continued recovery mean that surprise summer signing Akanji could come in for his debut.
Julian Alvarez was perhaps harshly dropped from the first XI after his brace versus Nottingham Forest, but Riyad Mahrez – who loves a goal in the Champions League – arguably has a stronger chance of coming into the first XI this week.
Bernardo Silva got the nod at right wing at the weekend and offered little, so the Algerian star could be afforded the start here.
