Anderlecht left-back Sergio Gomez is set to complete his switch to Premier League champions Manchester City, according to reports.
Following the departure of Oleksandr Zinchenko to Arsenal, the Premier League champions are on the lookout for a new left-back before the September 1 deadline.
The Citizens had been heavily linked with a move for Marc Cucurella, but they were unwilling to pay in excess of £50m for the left-back, who has now swapped Brighton & Hove Albion for Chelsea.
City are now believed to have drawn up a list of alternatives, with 21-year-old Spaniard Gomez seemingly their preferred left-back target at present.
The 21-year-old came through the youth ranks at both Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund before joining Anderlecht last summer, and he enjoyed a strong debut season in Belgium.
A report from The Guardian written by journalists Fabrizio Romano and Rob Bleaney states that City are now closing in on a deal to sign Gomez and will pay a fee in excess of €10m (£8.5m) for the attack-minded left-back.
Gomez’s transfer to the Etihad Stadium is set to be finalised soon, with both City and Anderlecht currently in discussions over the final details of the deal.
According to Pol Ballus and Sam Lee of the Athletic, the former Borussia Dortmund starlet will now fly to England to undergo a medical and sign a contract with Man City, after they reached an agreement with Anderlecht for the signing of the left-back for an initial fee of €13M.
Further details suggest that the Spanish under-21 international has been scouted extensively by the Sky Blues and is considered as a ‘high-potential developmental talent’.
Interestingly, it has also been stated that regardless of whether City plan on bringing in a more experienced option at left-back, this would not have deterred their pursuit for the player.
