Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims the Premier League champions are now closing in on Sergio GĆ³mez for a fee in excess of ā¬10M.
Pep Guardiola and co tried to snatch Marc Cucurella from Brighton & Hove Albion, but the Seagullsā astronomical valuation reportedly put City off. The Spaniard instead joined Chelsea in a deal worth a staggering Ā£62 million ā a world-record fee for a full-back.
Pep Guardiolaās side have since moved onto other options and are assessing their next target. Sergio Gomez ā who bagged 15 assists for Anderlecht last season ā emerged as a potential solution last week.
The 21-year-old is viewed as a future star by the defending Premier League champions amid their lack of options at left-back. Pep Guardiola is still waiting on a replacement for the departed Oleksandr Zinchenko.
It was claimed Sergio GĆ³mez was set for a loan spell with Girona ā a sister club in the City Football Group.
The latest update on the negotiations for the 21-year-old comes from Fabrizio Romano via his Twitter account.
Fabrizio Romano reported, āManchester City are closing on Sergio GĆ³mez deal with Anderlecht. Fee will be in excess of ā¬10m, final details being discussed and then it will be completed. Plan has always been to loan him to Gironaā¦ but been told City could now decide to keep Sergi.ā

āHeās basically a faster Zinchenko but more raw. Perfect for that inverted role but can also provide width pretty well, still not perfect but a good buy for just 15m. Good business.ā
