Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims the Premier League champions are closing in on the signing of Manuel Akanji from Borussia Dortmund.
The Premier League Champions, who have added Erling Haaland, Julian Alvarez, Kalvin Phillips, Sergio Gomez and Stefan Ortega to their squad already this summer, are on course to complete another deal before the close of the transfer window.
According to TheAthletic, Manchester City are in advanced negotiations with Borussia Dortmund and ready to clinch a deal at a cost of €17.5m for Manuel Akanji.
With Aymeric Laporte and Nathan Ake both injured, City boss Pep Guardiola feels he needs another central defender.
The 27-year-old defender has played 158 times for Dortmund, helping them to the 2021 German Cup alongside now City striker Erling Haaland.
Akanji is expected to bolster Man City’s ranks this season and will come in important as there are varying tournaments to play including the FA Cup and Carabao Cup, the Champions League and the Premier League.
Man City have shipped in five goals in four games this season and have struggled in the defensive area of their game.
The rreport was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.

“Very good as a squad option. With Laporte and Ake currently injured, it’s only a matter of time until we end up with 1 CB so I like it personally.”

“Yeah fair enough. We’re left without any real defending options on the bench quite a lot now so we needed just a little more depth”

“People want squad depth but are saying ‘Why?’ in the comments. Akanji is a decent centreback with plenty of experience and we are getting him for such a small fee. All win-win for us.”

“Fast for a CB, and very neat and tidy. City do not make signings just for numbers, he’ll be a big part of the squad. ”

“Football twitter is saying he’s shit but they also said the same about Dias before he signed for us so let’s just wait and see what happens. ”
