Erling Haaland revealed his relief that Phil Foden ‘finally’ passed to him, as he scored a hat-trick against Crystal Palace.
When Haaland first joined Manchester City he was asked about linking up with Foden, already considered one of the most talented midfielders in the world despite his young age.
The Norwegian wasn’t quite as effusive with his praise for the England star as many, pointing out that the 22-year-old ‘still has to develop.’
Last weekend it certainly looked like Haaland might have had a point, as Foden failed to pass to his new teammate, instead choosing to shoot in the game against Newcastle United.
At the time, Pep Guardiola’s team were 1-0 up and without Foden’s poor decision making would have surely doubled their lead, before going on to drop two points in a 3-3 draw.
On Saturday, Haaland was really needed to dig his side out of a hole, as they went 2-0 down against their bogey side, Palace, before turning things around.
The former Borussia Dortmund striker grabbed three goals, to go with Bernardo Silva’s first for the hosts, with Foden’s cross finding him for his first goal of the day.
Asked about the first goal, and his link up with Foden, Haaland cheekily said “Finally Foden played the ball to me. It’s a really good feeling, this.”
“We played for each other, we played together and that’s really good. We don’t care who scores, it’s about winning and the winning mentality…”
These Haaland’s comments were shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.
