New signing Erling Haaland scored on his debut as Manchester City beat Bayern Munich in a match twice held up by a lightning storm in Wisconsin on Saturday night.
He may have only played 40 minutes, with a 55-minute delay in between the first 13 and the following 27, but Erling Haaland proved why he was the main attraction in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
It took only 12 minutes for the Norwegian striker to find the net with his first shot on goal, sliding the ball in from close range after receiving an inviting low-driven cross from Jack Grealish.
The Citizens dominated proceeding at Lambeau Field in a game which was delayed on two occasions and reduced to an 80-minute affair due to an electrical storm passing over Green Bay’s Lambeau Field stadium.
There were two delays because of lightning in the area – one before kick-off and one in the first half – which resulted in the match being shortened to 80 minutes.
After giving City the lead, Haaland looked as if he had made it 2-0 just before the break but his left-footed shot from inside the area was disallowed for offside.
Despite a shorter debut than might have been expected, Haaland showed he has the capabilities to create a brilliant partnership with not only Grealish but Riyad Mahrez.
Of course Erling Haaland’s quick goal sent the Twitter world into a frenzy. After all, the 22-year-old just showed why Manchester City made a £51 million deal to get him from Borussia Dortmund.
Not to mention that it’s a massive confidence booster for City. If there’s any doubt about how Haaland fits with the team, he basically gave his answer with that incredible debut goal.
While it’s just one goal in a friendly game that doesn’t really matter, Manchester City fans will still be happy with the early returns. After winning the 2021-22 season of the Premier League, they now have their eyes on the ultimate prize in Europe come 2022-23.
