Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed met Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola and club chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak on Saturday.
It is widely acknowledged that since Sheikh Mansour’s takeover to become Manchester City’s new owners 2008, the deputy prime minister of the United Arab Emirates singlehandedly played a pivotal role in changing the club’s fortunes.
Guardiola guided Manchester City to a fourth Premier League title in five years after a tense finish. Leading second-placed Liverpool by just one point heading into the final day of the season, City found themselves trailing Aston Villa 2-0 at the Etihad Stadium with less than 15 minutes remaining.
Thereafter, substitute Ilkay Gundogan engineered a remarkable comeback by heading home Raheem Sterling’s cross, before Rodri levelled with a controlled finish two minutes later. Gundogan then struck again with nine minutes left to seal a stunning fightback and secure the title, the sixth since Mansour’s takeover in 2008 — and the club are pushing closer to Champions League success.
Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak said in his annual interview last week that City intend to add more players to their squad for their title defence, while he indicated that the club will sit down with Guardiola when the time was right to discuss a new contract.
Now, Guardiola has been pictured meeting his owner, along with Khaldoon, with planning for next season among the topics discussed.
City owner Sheikh Mansour posted images on his Twitter account on Sunday, stating that “the meeting came in the wake of the club’s recent victory in the English Premier League, and to discuss plans for the next season 2022/2023”.
Many Man City fans are excited to see Sheikh Mansour replicate his hands-on approach as he met personally with Pep Guardiola to draw up plans for next season as the club are always looking to sustain their reign at the top.
