Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims Juventus are ‘confident’ that Pep Guardiola’s side will move for Matthijs de Ligt this summer.
The 22-year-old centre-back joined Juventus from Ajax three years ago for £67.8m but has largely failed to live up to expectations and is reported to have informed the Italian club of his desire to leave.
Since moving to Turin in a £67.5m transfer in 2019, the defender has held down a regular spot in the middle of the backline, making a total of 117 appearances in all competitions.
However, with two years remaining on his contract, speculation has naturally emerged as to whether the Netherlands international sees his long-term future at his current employers.
Chelsea have been heavily linked with an approach for De Ligt as head coach Thomas Tuchel attempts to strengthen in defence. The Blues are also reportedly close to agreeing a fee with Manchester City that would see Nathan Ake return to Stamford Bridge.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport as relayed by Sport Witness on Thursday, Juventus are ‘confident’ Manchester City will move for the centre-back.
The reason for that is that Pep Guardiola ‘has never hidden his admiration for the former Ajax captain’, and should someone like Nathan Aké leave, ‘there could be space to include the €70M-rated star.
The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.

“This would be a great signing for us, as Chelsea FC is pushing for Nathen Ake. Last season we had issues with the injuries which created lots of issues with the team selection. He would make our defense more strong and deeper. He also brings leadership qualities.”
