Manchester City legend Sergio Aguero was quick to pay tribute to his former club after they won the Premier League title in a similar fashion to the famous 2012 victory he secured.
Things looked to be going Liverpool’s way when Matty Cash and Philippe Coutinho gave Villa a 2-0 lead. However, Pep Guardiola’s Blues were not to be denied.
The Sky Blues needed five minutes of magic to overturn Villa’s lead and make sure the Premier League trophy took its place in the City cabinet this season.
Ilkay Gundogan gave City hope in the 76th minute before a fine strike by Rodri sent the Etihad Stadium into raptures. But the best was yet to come as Gundogan scored to complete the turnaround with just nine minutes of normal time remaining in a similar fashion to the famous 2012 victory.
It was Aguero who scored the famous stoppage time goal to beat QPR 3-2 on the final day of the 2011-12 season that secured the title.
The Argentinean – who left the club for Barcelona last summer, only to retire in December due to a heart issue – posted a message on his Twitter account that read: “Campeones campeones, I love you Man City.”

In reaction to Aguero’s emotional message, many Manchester City fans celebrated their hard-fought yet thrilling win with the retired Argentine striker comparing his famous stoppage time goal in 2012 with Gundogan’s moments on Sunday.
